Eleventy!

The Grim Tides Kickstarter is done! I raised $11,241.00. That’s a pretty good advance, you guys. Better than I’ve gotten for any of the other novels I’ve sold in the past few years. Thanks to everyone who donated or spread the word. I am so happy to be writing more about Marla, and getting paid for it. This will help with the kid’s preschool tuition and pay down the ever-present hospital bills, and we should be able to take a bite out of the family debt. (And have a nice meal or two as well.) Life is good!

Last night I crossed 20,000 words on the first draft of Grim Tides. Since the Marla novels run around 85,000 words, that’s pretty much a fourth of a book! Since it seems likely the whole thing will be written by the time I start serializing it in January, I may update with two chapters a week instead of one, on Mondays and Wednesdays. So the whole thing would be posted over three months or so, instead of six. What do you think?

I’d be happy with two chapters a week so long as you’re satisfied by the chapters you post. I wouldn’t want you to feel rushed and put up something that you don’t consider to be very good. In general though more Marla is more better.

Oh, there’d be no rushing. I’d only do it if the book were completely done anyway — which I think it might be. Seems cruel to make people wait 6 months when the whole thing’s written. I might release the complete e-book version(s) while the book’s still being serialized for free, for impatient readers. Though I’d send it to donors/backers early then too, of course.

I’d be all for an E-book because I’m the sort of guy that chews through a book in a sitting or two if it’s very good. A Chapter by chapter release would require me to basically wait till the entire thing is out and just read it all at once.

  4. Basically: awesome that it’s coming along so well!

Personally I’d go for the slower serialization. I think it’s awesome that you release so much content for free, but leave a hook to give new Marla fans an excuse to plonk down a few bucks for the real version. They’ll be happier that you’re able to write more in the long run anyway :).

I have no strong feelings personally, since depending on Life, I might not be able to read it even as quickly as a chapter a week. (But I’ll probably read it as fast as I can!)

I know this is not the current entry now, just in case you read it, but I have to say that I would really love if you could put the ebook up early on Amazon. I’ll buy it as soon as it is up.
